I don't know how many of you are having this problem, but here's a little tip I picked up at the Dillon booth at the NRA annual meeting...

Ever since I switched from Clays to Trailboss, it seems as if the amount of spilled/loose powder encountered during the reloading process increased dramatically....   Before switching to Trailboss a flake or two would escape to freedom every once in a while, but with Trailboss it seemed like I was piling up quite a bit of spilled powder by the end of a session.....

Anyhow, the guy at the Dillon booth offering technical support indicated that it was due to a combination of high volume and light weight flakes.....   His suggested remedy was to switch to the Rifle bar on the powder measure and he guaranteed that I'd see a dramatic improvement.   I haven't tried it yet to confirm, but thought I'd go ahead and get it out there in case someone has been having a similar problem....

Let me know if you try it and what the results are.....   I'll do the same when I get around to my next loading session....

Howdy,

Shortly after buying a Dillion 550 I switched to the "large" charge bar to obtain more consistent loads.

I tried the big powder bar in my 550 without much success (erratic loads-heavy/light etc).

In the meantime I noticed I was having trouble with AA#9 spilling using the pistol bar. Called DILLON and they suggested removing the spacer above the pistol bar, adding 1 layer of cellophane tape to the top of the spacer ( I used clear packing tape)  and reinstalling the spacer.

Since then, I have had no problems with AA#9 and I went back to the pistol bar and have been getting really accurate loads with the Trailboss ( 3.3 gr IIRC)

PS. Don't forget to cut the tape around the opening in the spacer so powder can fall through it as intended.

Good Luck

I quit using my Dillion powder drop all together. I went back to the RCBS and it perfect. I just rotate the load between Deb's and mine with a simple adjustment. And its not hunting it and weighing 4-5 times ........ its first time and its right on.
