Ocoee Rangers Annual Shoot & Family Event!

barholly1

After the December Shoot was completed, we gathered at the Golden Corral in Cleveland, TN, had lunch together and celebrated 2008 and our collective and individual accomplishments. 2008 has been a successful and fun year for the Ocoee Rangers Cowboy and Cowgirl Shooters. During the course of the year, 144 different shooters have shot with us: 23 of them were cowgirls. In 2007, 141 shooters shot with us. So, we attracted a few more folks to play our game. During the year, 76 people shot 5 or more matches with us, and 8 shooters shot 4 or more matches without missing a shot.

When the eats were gone and the dishes cleared, we began our awards ceremony, recognizing (by applause) the folks who have set up the range, written shooting scenarios and led posses at monthly shoots. Then we presented our most prestigious award, the Annual Spirit of the Game Award.

The Spirit of the Game Award is presented to a cowboy or cowgirl who provides service to the Ocoee Rangers and / or who very favorably presents the image of Cowboy & Cowgirl Action Shooting to other shooters and to the public. The 2008 Spirit of the Game Award was presented to Sundance McNeyman. For several years, Sundance has helped set-up the range on the Fridays before our shoots, helped foster a positive relationship between the Ocoee Rangers and our sponsor, the Cleveland Hunting Rifle and Pistol Club, assisted in monthly registration by handling the money, and done other things to favorably present us.

To qualify to compete for Annual Awards, a cowboy or cowgirl must shoot in at least 5 Ocoee Ranger monthly matches during the year from January – November. Shooting info is complied for each monthly match, points awarded, and then winners are recognized at the Annual Event. The more matches a shooter shoots, the better chance he or she has in winning an Annual Award. Awards are presented for the Buffalo Shoot, Accuracy, Shooting Categories, Top Cowgirl Shooter and THE TOP GUN FOR THE YEAR, the best shooter amongst us.

2008 ANNUAL SHOOT RESULTS

To determine the TOP GUN for the year, each month, the Top 10 Shooters are awarded points by how they place. The winner gets 10 points and the 10th place gets 1 point. Unpleasant placed 1st in 2008 shooting competition and is the TOP GUN OF 2008.

The Top Cowgirl Shooter is also determined by shooting placement at monthly shoots. The 1st place cowgirl shooter is awarded 5 points and the 5th place shooter is awarded 1 point. Last Kiss is the Top Cowgirl Shooter of 2008.

We also recognized our most accurate shooters in 2008. The Top 5 Most Accurate Shooters in 2008 were: (1) Limp Along Charlie (2) Tellico (3) Tennessee Hoss (4) Unpleasant and (5) Marshal Too Tall.

Shooting Category Awards were also presented. Each month, the 1st place shooter in each category receives 3 points and the 3rd place receives 1 point. Points are totaled, with the requirement that a shooter must shoot in at least 5 matches Jan – Nov to qualify for Annual Shooting Awards. Some shooters experimented a bit and won awards in more than 1 category: such as Yazoo City Gal, Mrs. Pleasant and Horseshoe John.
