HO – HO – HO!  …  MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It’s hard to believe, but with the close of the December Shoot and Annual Event, we’ve completed another year as Ocoee Rangers. The Christmas festivities are always special, although turnout for the actual shoot is usually light.  This year, we had 39 shooters participate in the shoot, although several more Ocoee Rangers joined us for the lunch and after-shoot-annual event: more about that later. The Christmas shoot is always colorful.  In addition to our normal western dress, no Too Tall – that doesn’t mean we all wear dresses, folks sorta spruce up for the event.  They also wear seasonal costumes. Just take a look at the photos above. This year was a bit special: Whiskey River Nelson was back with us.  He had to leave the area several years ago for employment reasons.  Accompanying him were his better half and an 18 month old cowboy none of us had ever seen.

Front L-R: Whiskey River Nelson, Horseshoe John, Double Eagle, Deacon Red. Back L-R: Amorous Ali, Sassy Motchie, Sheriff Lord, Tin Pot, Kid Ziggy, T-Bone Angus, Long Gulch, Hoss Carpenter.

Deputy, Marshal Too Tall, T-Bone Angus, Whiskey River Nelson, Ranger Roger, Horseshoe John, Lucky Lightburne, and Wildwood Marshal.  The Top Gun was Jackalope, and the Top Cowgirl Shooter was Sassy Motchie. OCOEE RANGERS & TENNESSEE MOUNTAIN MARAUDERS JOINTLY CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS AND ANNUAL AWARDS LUNCHEON

Following the Christmas / December Shoots, the Ocoee Rangers and Tennessee Mountain Marauders gathered at the Golden Corral restaurant where we had lunch together, presented Annual Awards from both groups in a joint presentation, had a drawing for prizes, and generally enjoyed the fellowship of fellow shooters and their special guests. 82 people attended the event, counting shooters and guests.

Each year our ceremony begins with the presentation of the most notable of our awards, the Annual Spirit of the Game Award.  It’s awarded to a cowboy or cowgirl who, throughout the year, works to promote the Ocoee Rangers and Cowboy Action Shooting in general.  Ocoee Red, Captain of the Ocoee Rangers, presented the 2010 Spirit Of The Game Award to Double Eagle. In 2010, Double Eagle has been a regular member of the range set up team, even when he wasn’t able to shoot in that month’s shoot. He has served as a Posse Leader at most shoots and has been mentioned by several visiting and new shooters as being patient and supportive of them and made them want to come back and visit. He’s also participated in several other clubs’ matches and major state shoots, and in the process, he’s been a good ambassador for our group and the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting.

Double Eagle Received The 2010 Spirit Of The Game Award From Ocoee Rangers Captain Ocoee Red.

SAFETY NOTE – EYE INJURY & PREVENTION:  If you don’t wear shooting glasses with wrap-around side shields, and you wear prescription glasses, you might want to consider getting a pair of removable side shields for your glasses.  At the December shoot, I was standing at the loading table sideways to down range, taking a picture, and got hit in the eye with either a piece of lead or more likely a piece of gravel. The impact hit just left of the iris in my left eye making an abrasion and a bit of a dent.  Horseshoe John has told me before that I should be wearing side shields, and I let it pass. After the shoot, I ordered removable side shields for both Mesquite Millie and me.  If you’re interested in getting side-shields for your RX specs, you can order them on line from TASCO.
