OCOEE RANGERS CHRISTMAS SHOOT, ANNUAL EVENT & 2011 ANNUAL AWARDS PRESENTATION

Christmas Cowboys L - R: Double Eagle, T-Bone Angus, Tin Pot & Horseshoe John

Christmas brings out the best in folks, or so the saying goes. But if folks are supposed to treat others more considerately, that only goes so far: Unpleasant still beat all other shooters and was the TOP GUN at the Dec. shoot. He dressed festively, but he still outshot everyone else. But it was close. He and Marshal Too Tall tied in the base score, but he was 1.94 seconds faster than Too Tall. Last Kiss was the Top Lady Shooter, shooting Outlaw. 8 contestants shot Outlaw, which isn’t unusual at the Dec. shoot. Scores don’t count in Annual Competition, so, some folks try other categories as a lark. And speaking of larks, Sheriff Lord was captured smiling on camera: he’s usually sporting his solemn cowboy face.

The stages were a bit different, thanks to Horseshoe John. He wrote them. 1 was a pistol only stage, requiring 3 pistols. I pick on Too Tall a bit, but he shot that stage in only 14 seconds, and shot it clean. He and 11 other shooters shot the match with no misses: Marshal Too Tall, T-Bone Angus, Ranger Roger, Lucky Lightburne, Horseshoe John, Hidecutter, Limp Along Charlie, Owlhoot Hardin, Oracle, Raw Flint, Colonel Mortimer and Cotton Ginnie.

The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Unpleasant (2) Marshal Too Tall (3) Polecat Carl (4) T-Bone Angus (5) Outcast (6) Double Eagle (7) Ocoee Red (8) Ranger Roger (9) Tin Pot and (10) Outrider.

There was no Buffalo Shoot in December.  Marshal Too Tall showed up on the Buffalo Shoot range, and no one else was there. He thought he scared off all the competition, but that wasn’t it. Jackson Longstreet was probably out caroling.  Mongo was sitting on some Santa’s knee fibbing and saying that he’d been a good boy all year, just hoping for the best. Sundance was helping Mesquite Millie with registration. And Tin Pot was having his picture taken. See above.

After the smoke cleared and the targets were stored, we adjourned and most of us met at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Cleveland, where we had lunch, fellowship and presented OCOEE RANGERS ANNUAL AWARDS. 1st up, we presented  the 2011 SPIRIT OF THE GAME AWARD. From nominees presented by the nominating committee (Sassy Motchie, Sudden Sam, Sundance McNeyman, Pleasant, Fast Harley & Last Kiss), Ocoee Red was awarded the OCOEE RANGERS 2011 ANNUAL SPIRIT OF THE GAME AWARD. Old Red was unaware he had been selected until he got it. He presented all the other awards, but Deadman presented Ocoee Red his special plaque.

Lots of folks won Awards for the various categories: remember for next year, you have to participate in at least 5 matches to be eligible to receive an Annual Award, no matter how many points you score.

The Top 5 Most Accurate Shooters Awards were presented to (1) Hidecutter & Deadman (2) Limp Along Charlie (3) Tennessee Hawk (4) D.Q. Jones and (5) Tellico.

The 2011 TOP GUN Award was presented to Unpleasant to and earned by Unpleasant, who accrued 100 points in annual scoring. His closest rival accrued 65 points.

The 2011 TOP LADY SHOOTER Award was presented to Last Kiss.

All shooting awards, except accuracy are based on points earned throughout the year, with a requirement for participating in at least 5 matches, excluding December. Accuracy awards are based on average misses per stage throughout the year, with a minimum of 5 matches shot.
