The January Shoot Was Colder Than A Well-Digger’s Butt In Montana!
Gosh, the January Shoot was cold, especially that morning. How cold was it? Well, I was walking along and saw a hat and pair of sunglasses lying on the ground. I started to pick up the hat, and Pleasant said, “Don’t do that. Unpleasant is scrunched up in there to keep warm.” I said, “How come his glasses are out on the ground?” Pleasant replied, “When he has dark glasses on, he can’t see to move around inside the hat.”
Well, maybe that’s a little exaggeration, but it was C-O-L-D. 55 shooters ventured out to battle the clang gang (the steel targets), and all seemed to enjoy themselves. Some folks looked a bit differently. Tombstone was wearing a buffalo robe coat: he said it was really warm, but it weighed 20 lbs. Not to be outdone, Yazoo City Gal was sporting a nifty winter coat covered with pictures of mustangs. And Tucson Tuco arrived as a photographer’s challenge. That means he’s shaved off his mustache, and years of pictures suddenly don’t look like him anymore. But shucks, he was never that pretty anyway.

Certificate Winners Are Shown In Blue. In the years before 2010, we awarded certificates only to shooters who outshot someone. So if 2 shooters registered in a shooting category, we awarded 1 certificate. If only 1 person registered in a category, we didn’t award a certificate for that category. As some shooters have told us, why give me a certificate if I didn’t outshoot someone. So, we’re returning to our past procedure. If you’re the only shooter in the category you sign up for, you won’t be eligible to receive a category certificate. In January, we said we’d recognize a category only if at least 2 shooters registered in that category, and that was unpopular. So you can shoot alone if you want, or tell Mesquite Millie, when you register, to move you to some other category if no one else registers in your category, if you want to be eligible to receive a category certificate.
