Imagination on the Range
What do you get when you combine 2 imaginative, sorta aged cowboys, a bit of imagination, a length of rope, an early morning and Ocoee Red as guardian angel? The answer is obvious: Horseshoe John and Marshal Too Tall.
Where shall we begin? Horseshoe John arrived at the shoot site, riding his trusty steed (a red pickup) and pulling a trailer. He looked at the trail ahead of him, off the driveway, saw the turned earth of a construction job, imagined that either the footing was firm or his mechanical horse was light, and he drove forward … and then stopped as his front wheels sunk in the red dirt, just like wagon wheels in a western movie. He had to be pulled out, but his horse still wouldn’t budge until Bad Eye Tom shoved it by hand and gave the tow just enough power to dislodge Horseshoe’s steed.
Too Tall had his own morning. He wasn’t able to shoot in the Long Range Rifle competition in the Buffalo Shoot. He said the rifle wouldn’t hit the primers of his ammo hard enough to make them shoot. But this word scratcher saw Too Tall at the shooting bench, and maybe Too Tall had a problem with mind over matter. He was in shooting position, hands up in rifle cradling position, looking down the barrel at the targets, planning his shot, but he wasn’t holding a rifle. Maybe his problem was that when one shoots an imaginary rifle, it doesn’t send a round down range to the target.
Unpleasant was the Top Gun, and Dodge City Dixie was the Top Lady Shooter. Miss Bo shot her 1st ever No Misses Match, and Young Gun Chris Colt shot his 1st Ocoee Rangers match. The Top 10 Shooters were: (1) Unpleasant (2) Hurricane Charly (3) Cumberland Drifter (4) Barkeep Casey (5) Copperhead Joe (6) Papa Dave (7) Marshal WD (8) Clancy O’Conall (9) Happy Pappy and (10) Kid Ziggy. 35 shooters shot with No Misses, including 7 of the Top 10.
In the pre match Buffalo Shoot, Jackson Longstreet won the .22 cal. competition, Yankee Dutchman won the Long Range Rifle shoot, and Marshal Too Tall won the Lever Action Rifle and Long Range Pistol competitions.
