Short Cowboys Have A Good Day On The Range!

We had competition from a Kentucky State Shoot that attracted several regular Ocoee Ranger shooters, but 72 cowboys & cowgirls ventured out to shoot the steel bad guys with us. Shucks, 30 shooters shot Matches With No Misses. And the short cowboys did very well with their shootin’ irons. Buckaroo shooter Vicious Nick improved from last month. He shot 2 clean stages and had several fewer misses. Trooper Troy, another Buckaroo, shot a Match With No Misses. Lastly, Marshall Too Tall, our other short cowboy, won all 4 events in the Buffalo Shoot (Lever Action Rifle, Single Shot Rifle, .22 Cal. and Long Range Pistol), shot a No Misses Match and placed 10th in overall match competition. 

 Did you know that Buckaroo shooting is a team sport? Well, it certainly is.  Young cowboys and cowgirls have to learn to shoot safely, hit their targets and have fun. Their mentors help them along as they learn.  Take a gander at  Vicious Nick (below), he’s concentrating on his shooting as his pop, Slater, gives a bit of helpful advice. Notice anything else about this photo? Yep. All three are wearing black hats. (Too Tall probably said they’re all wearin’ glasses.)

Shooting through the bars was a challenge for several cowboys. A few tried to shift to a better position, moved both feet and ran a-fowl of the regs. But Tennessee Hawk added a bit of additional challenge to observing shooters.  He shot between each set of bars, unlike those who just picked out a hole and shoot all their guns through that same hole. But don’t knock it, Hawk shot a Match With No Misses.

 The TOP GUN of the day was Clancy O’Conall, and the Top Lady Shooter was Lulu McGoo, both of whom shot Matches With No Misses. The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Clancy O’Conall (2) Slater (3) Widowmaker (4) Unpleasant (5) Barkeep Casey (6) Marshal W.D. (7) Ocoee Red (8) Double Nickle (9) Hurricane Charly and (10) Marshal Too Tall.

 3 Wife and Husband teams shot Matches With No Misses: Lulu McGoo and Happy Pappy, Diamond Girl and Clancy O’Conall, and Feather Dancer and Dusty Dollar.

 The Outlaw shooters were out, as usual.  Yazoo City Gal shot Outlaw2, the 2-handed version of point shooting from the hip.  Notice her style, and also her hat. Both make a statement. “Hey, I’m an Outlaw shooter. I shoot well, and I look stylish doing it.”

  Loose Cinch didn’t look quite as stylish as Yazoo City Gal, but he shot his 2nd Match With No Misses in the last 3 shoots.  As Too Tall would say, “That’s not bad shooting.”

 Cumberland Ranger, Squire Shooter’s grandson shot with No Misses, as did his grandpaw.

 Tatar Salad, our Young Gun shooter, returned with a bang and shot a No Misses Match. All in all, it was a good day on the range.  See you next time, cowgirls and cowboys of all ages.
