Bring on the Flowers .. We Had April Showers All Day … Off & On

We had a real good turnout at the April Shoot.  55 shooters braved the elements and ventured out to shoot between or through the raindrops.  Now Too Tall will  say, “Hey.  He got it wrong, again. There were only 54 shooters.  And he’d be sorta correct.  1 shooter (me) missed his holster and dropped a loaded pistol at the loading table, before firing a shot. So, 55 folks really did venture out to shoot. But only 54 did so.

We shot the stages from under the sheds: thank goodness for them. It was a bit crowded under there, what with shooters, counters, observers, goof offs, gun carts, shooting tables and other stuff. But it was dry. Unpleasant said that as he was moving from shoot position 1 to position 2, Yankee Dutchman was standing there in his way, looking like a linebacker ready to make a tackle. But either Unpleasant was really fast on his feet, or Yankee Dutchman had compassion for him and let him scamper away to shoot.  And he shot well: Unpleasant was the TOP GUN.

Loose Cinch Showing Outlaw Pistol Shooting Stance.

Loose Cinch is a dyed in the wool Outlaw class shooter. That means that when the rest of us Cowgirl and Cowboy Shooters shoot our pistols at arm’s length using the sights, he and his Outlaw shooting pals shoot their pistols from the hip, elbow bent, and shooting pistols with 1 hand.  It’s sorta like shooting gunfighter, but not using the sights and not straightening your arms when you point at the targets. And Loose Cinch and his Outlaw shooting pals also shoot their shotguns from the hip, pointing at the targets rather than aiming at them from the shoulder. Sounds more difficult than the way you shoot?  It is.  Ask Last Kiss.  She’s a good gunfighter shooting cowgirl, who hits almost all her targets and has shot No Misses Matches in other categories.  In March, someone talked her into shooting Outlaw.  She missed 25 shots. That’s not normal for her. This old word scratcher, taking pictures of her as she was shooting, as he frequently does, observed her take 11 shots with her trusty shotgun to hit 1 of the shotgun targets. Outlaw is a difficult category in which to shoot.

This is a round-about lead in to saying that at the March 2013 Ocoee Rangers Shoot, Loose Cinch shot a No Misses Match shooting Outlaw. Not a single cowgirl or cowboy has ever done that at an Ocoee Rangers match before Loose Cinch did it. In April, he continued his Outlaw pursuit, shooting Colt Navy pistols and black powder.  Like Judge’m All Duncan, he showed what blackpowder looks like on a rainy day.
