Ocoee Rangers Newsletter August 2016 Vol. 14, Issue No. 8
Posted by Deadman in NewsletterThe August Shoot – The Month Before The Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out
Thanks to the following for assistance in this Issue of the Ocoee Rangers: Lucky Lightburne – Photos … Sudden Sam – Scores … Pleasant & Ocoee Red – Notes of Happenings … Marshal Too Tall – Buffalo Shoot Results
The August Ocoee Rangers shoot was another good one. 58 shooters participated. Both Dajango Slim and Tenn Smoke were back, after being away for a long while. It was good to have them back. And a few folks were with us for their 1st time. That was special too. What kind of day was it? Well, according to old west philosopher, Ocoee Red, “It was hotter than …….”. He left that last part out, so folks could use their own word. That way everyone could both describe the day as they saw it, …. and no one would be embarrassed. Right Rev. Adam Jones?

Posse No. 3 L-R: Hike’s Peak Hank, Fast Harley, Curly Bill, Judge’m All Duncan, Mongo, Appalucy, Loose Cinch (behind Appalucy), Last Kiss, Miss Kitty Kat, Koda Joe, Clancy O’Conall (looking like a pirate) and Slater. Widowmaker is loading.
Look at Posse 3, above. See all the smiles? Were they smiling because they really like Cowboy & Cowgirl Shooting? Or were the smiles because Too Tall shoots in Posse No. 2? No, that can’t be it. They just like shooting. The Top Gun for the day was Cumberland Drifter, and the Top Lady Shooter was Dodge City Dixie. The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Cumberland Drifter (2) Hurricane Charly (3) Unpleasant (4) Hike’s Point Hank (5) Widowmaker (6) Purly (7) Double Nickle (8) Koda Joe (9) Jackalope (10) Clancy O’Conall. Yankee Dutchman won the Buffalo Shoot Long Range Rifle – Pistol Cal. event, and Marshal Too Tall won all the rest: Long Range Pistol, Long Range Rifle – Rifle Cal. & .22 Cal.

Next Month Is The “Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out!”
Remember how the old TV version of Dragnet used to start? Let’s try it.
This is the place, the Ocoee Rangers Cowboy & Cowgirl Shooters’ range in Cleveland, TN. I shoot here, I’m a Cowboy Shooter. I was riding the day watch on the range. It was sorta sunny. My pardner was Marshal Too Tall. He was feeling intense, in anticipation of the coming action. We were talking to lots of cowgirls and cowboys getting ready to unlimber their shootin’ irons and compete in the Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out! …. Did that sound a bit like how Joe Friday would have said it?
Next month, September 24th, will be our 3rd Annual Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out! Have you filled out your registration form and turned it and your shoot fee in to Purly? If you haven’t, pilgrim, you better get movin’. You don’t want to miss out on a good shoot and a chance to win an Ocoee Rangers belt buckle, if you win your shootin’ category, or a certificate for being the Best Dressed Lady or Best Dressed Gent, or an award for some other shooting performance, or a nifty lunch / grub after the shoot, or a chance to win a prize in a drawing. Most importantly, you don’t want to miss a nifty shoot with lots of your shooting pals. How much does it cost to shoot? It’s real reasonable, pilgrim. Buckaroos shoot and eat free. All other shooters pay a $25 Shoot Fee, which includes “grub” following the shoot. Non-shooters who have “grub” with us will pay $8. That’s a bargain in anyone’s book, right Too Tall?
