Ocoee Rangers Newsletter … December 2014 … Vol. 12 … Issue No. 12
Posted by Deadman in NewsletterTenn Critr Shot His100th Match Without A Miss At December Shoot!
The December 27th Shoot was the last Ocoee Rangers Shoot in 2014. Time flies, doesn’t it? 55 shooters participated in the match, 12 of which shot with no misses. Speaking of No Misses, Tenn Critr, shooting Senior Gunfighter and placing No. 1 in that category, shot his 100th Match With No Misses, and he did it as an Ocoee Ranger. Sure, he shoots at Oak Ridge and at Mystery Dog, but he shot his 100th Match With No Misses as an Ocoee Ranger. Congratulations, cowboy!
How’d the other shooters do? Well, Unpleasant, shooting Gunfighter, was the Top Gun, and Roma Jane was the Top Lady Shooter, closely followed by Dodge City Dixie. The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Unpleasant (2) Hurricane Charly (3) Ocoee Red (4) Barkeep Casey (5) Purly (6) Deadly Shooter (7) Tabasco J.O.T. (8) Polecat Carl (9) Fast Harley and (10) Pleasant.
2 shooters shot the in Cattle Baron class, Tabasco J.O.T. and Rev. Adam Jones, and both shot with no misses.
Hey! What happened to Too Tall? Did he shoot? Well, of course he did. He placed 35th. But the little gentleman shot Outlaw and only missed 1 shot. That wasn’t bad shooting, at least Yazoo City Gal thought it wasn’t bad shooting … for him. He placed 2nd in Outlaw shooting, and she placed 1st.
The December shoot is a fun shoot: the results at that match aren’t figured into the Annual Match calculations. So, folks sometimes shoot in categories they normally don’t shoot in just for a new fun experience. Last Kiss and Too Tall shot Outlaw. Pop Dawson shot in the Josey Wales category: he shot everything with pistols. Fast Harley, Steely I. Justice and Dirtwater Fox shot Gun Sharp. Shooting Gun Sharp, they shot stage 1 as Traditional (2 hands hold on each pistol), stage 2 as Duelist, stage 3 as Double Duelist, stage 4 as Gunfighter and stage 5 as Outlaw.

2014 Ocoee Rangers Annual Awards Presented After The December Shoot
2014 was a good shooting year for the Ocoee Rangers. Average shooting attendance per match in 2014 was 68 shooters, up from 61 per match in 2013. In 2014, there were 161 shooters who shot 1 or more matches with us: that’s 19 more than in 2013. In 2014, there were 76 shooters who shot 5 or more matches with us: that’s 7 more than in 2013. Keeping attendance up is a challenge. It’s harder to get shooting supplies than it sometimes used to be, and some of us are getting a bit more mature, as the years move along. But the final measurement is that those who regularly or somewhat regularly shoot with us have fun at Ocoee Rangers Shoots, and we’re safe on our range. We have trees, good shooting bays, and even after a few rainy days, we can shoot without getting muddy. But enough of this. Let’s announce the 2014 Ocoee Rangers Annual Awards Winners.
Our 2 most prestigious awards are (1) the Annual Spirit of the Game Award and (2) the Annual Top Gun Award. The Spirit of the Game Award is determined by a selection committee, this year lead by Double Eagle, and awarded to a cowboy or cowgirl who is a good ambassador for the Ocoee Rangers and Cowboy Shooters in general. The 2014 Spirit of the Game Award was presented to Sudden Sam.
The Top Gun Award is determined by shoot results January through November, with points being awarded to shooters placing in the Top 10 at each match. Unpleasant was without question the 2014 Ocoee Rangers Top Gun … Once again.

Top 10 Shooters receive points for placement for each shoot: 10 points for No. 1 and 1 point for No. 10. The Top 5 Lady Shooters at each match receive points for placement at each shoot: 5 points for No. 1 and 1 point for No. 5. Category shooters receive placement points for the top 5 shooters at each match, in the same manner as Lady Shooters. Accuracy Awards are based on misses per match/per stage shot. Buffalo Shooters receive 5 points for winning a category at each match and points are cumulative.
HOW CAN I INCREASE MY CHANCES OF WINNING AN ANNUAL SHOOTING AWARD IN 2015? … Shoot in the same category at each shoot. If you change around, you’ll likely lose points. Remember, folks who shoot more and accumulate points may score higher than someone who wins when he/she shoots but doesn’t shoot as often.
