Ocoee Rangers Newsletter – July 2013 Vol. 11 Issue No. 7
Posted by Deadman in NewsletterYou Don’t Have To Wait For Fall To See Colors In Tennessee
Fall is a colorful time of year, right? Sure it is. The hills come alive with reds, and yellows, and oranges and the blue of the sky, and …. you get the picture. Even you, Too Tall. But no matter the season, a day of Ocoee Ranger Cowboy Action Shooting is always colorful. Just look at Double Eagle, sporting a red shooting shirt, shinny pistols, 5 gallon hat, and a pony tail that’s working to become a horse’s tail. That’s the red of fall.
Yellow is a predominant fall color also, and we had that too. Or more precisely, T-Bone Angus had it. Shenandoah Will said that T-Bone looked like an ear of corn, decked out in his yellow trousers. Take a look at T-Bone below. He looks plum pleased, doesn’t he? T-Bone was unfazed by the comment. He’s usually decked out to celebrate the shoots.
What about the blue of the sky? Hoss Carpenter came to the rescue on that. He was decked out in blue and sending lead down range.
Cowboys weren’t the only color on the range: nope. Wichita Filly colored the landscape as well with a brace of pistols, a big smile, and lead on the targets.
When the smoke cleared, the TOP GUN of the day was Hurricane Charly, and the Top Lady Shooter was Anita Margarita. Shez A Pistol was down in the ranks a bit, but she shot a No Misses Match.
The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Hurricane Charly (2) Marshal WD (3) Kid Hawkins (4) Cumberland Drifter (5) Unpleasant (6) Clancy O’Conall (7) Marshal Too Tall (8) Widowmaker (9) Purly and (10) Tabasco JOT. 25 shooters shot matches with No Misses.
8 shooters shot the match with Cap & Ball pistols, 4 of which shot as Outlaws. Jackalope, Kid Ziggy, Long Gulch and Fast Harley shot as Cap & Ball shooters. Cap & Ball Out- law shooters were Loose Cinch, Curly Bill, Cactus Red and Badlands Beck.
A few cowboys showed up at the July shoot sporting something new. For example, Lucky Lightburne was wearing a nifty, new hat. Shenandoah Will’s change in appearance took a closer look to notice: he was sporting a new lip. Yep. After 23 years, his mustache was gone. He never said whether he shaved it off, or whether the caterpillar finally changed into a butterfly and few away. Of course Too Tall would probably say, if you asked him, that neither of them were any prettier than before the changes.
Cactus Red, to compete in the Cap & Ball Pistol shooting spree was packing a new pair of pistols, and they looked really good. ’58 Remingtons, nickel plated and engraved with black ebony grips. When asked how they shoot Cactus replied, “I don’t know. I’ve never shot’em. In fact, I’ve never even loaded a cap & ball pistol before.” Oh well, he seemed to do ok with them. He only missed 3 shots competing in the Outlaw event.
And speaking of Outlaw shooting, Tennessee Tombstone shot his 1st No Misses Match as an Ocoee Ranger.
