Bouncing Down The Bunny Trail

Our March shoot was the day before Easter. It’s a day when lots of young folks hop down the Bunny Trail and hunt eggs. Cowfolk shooters are young at heart, and 1 of us attempted to hop down the Bunny Trail, but bounced down it instead. Remember the stage with the hay bales? Shooters could shoot pistols from near the shooting line, or hop or scamper down to the 2nd bale near the targets. T-Bone Angus proceeded to hop down that trail, but took a couple of bounces and collided with the ground. Only his pride was hurt, and he smiled like a good sport. Maybe his spurs got tangled together. Or maybe he tripped over an Easter egg. Or maybe Too Tall tripped him: he was standing close by.

75 shooters participated: technically 76 in that Clancy shot in 2 classes: Gunfighter and Wrangler. In the Buffalo Shoot, Jackson Longstreet won the .22 cal. event. Sundance McNeyman won the Long Range Rifle – Pistol Cal. shoot. Marshal Too Tall won Long Range Rifle – Rifle Cal. & Long Range Pistol competitions.

6 shooters shot with no misses, led by Lady Buckaroo Long Shot Layla. The TOP GUN was Hurricane Charly. The Top Lady Shooter was Anita Margarita, who looked smashing in black and with a sparkling gun rig that she made herself. The Top Maverick Shooter was Limp Along Charlie. Here’s how the Top 10 shooters placed: (1) Hurricane Charly (2) Cumberland Drifter (3) Papa Dave (4) Double Nickle (5) Pistoler (6) Slater (7) Barkeep Casey (8) Clancy O’Conall (Wrangler) (9) Sean Clancy O’Conall (Gunfighter) and (10) Cullen Bohannon.

Of course any shooter, cowboy or cowgirl … of any age, must have a gun rig to pack his or her pistols. But, some of us have gun rigs that are more spiffy, or artistic, or visually eye-catching than others. Anita Margarita is a cowgirl who has such a gun rig.

Take a look at Anita Margarita in the picture below.

What stands out? Sure, she looks plum snazzy in her black shooting duds. The blouse looks terrific. The smile is 1st class. However shooters, which we are, notice right away that her gun leather looks super. And the back of her belt has lots of silver attached. Now for the kicker, Anita Margarita is not only a very good shot, she’s a master craftsman. Yep. This lady made her own gun rig. When asked if she’d made her shooting leather, she smiled and said, “Yeah. I did. I made the rig that El Paso Slim’s wearing today, too. I like making my own gear. See, I’ve made notches in the belt, so the holsters stay in place and don’t move.”

Some artists work in paint, some sculpt, some make hand crafted knives, and some engrave firearms. And some artists make terrific looking and functional gun rigs. Anita Margarita is an artist, whether she has a gun in her hand, shooting at targets, or crafting gun rigs. She’s excellent at both.
