Ocoee Rangers Newsletter – May 2010 – Volume 8, Issue No. 5
Posted by Deadman in NewsletterLightnings Strike More Than Once!
Have you ever heard the old saying, “Lightning never strikes twice?” Well, that’s not exactly true, at least it wasn’t at the May shoot. At least 2 shooters, Ms. Dee Lightning and Colonel Mortimer unlimbered their Colt Lightning rifles and tantalized the targets on all 5 stages. And speaking of stages, there was 1 that was reminiscent of former days of Cowboy Action Shooting: the targets were out there a little bit farther and cowboy silhouette targets were used. Shooters had a choice: shoot targets at smacking distance at the right side shooting position, or stay over on the left and shoot them out there a bit. Most folks shot’m at smacking distance, some because they like’m close and humongous and others because they didn’t want to risk their No Miss Matches. But about 7 shooters shot from the left, proving to themselves that they could hit’em out there a bit. When it was time for him to shoot, Marshal Too Tall proudly marched over to the left side shooting position, looked down range at the targets, accepted the admiration of his shooting companions for his gumption, and them scurried over to the right side shooting position. He evidently had 1 more April Fool trick left from last month.
In total, 85 cowboys & cowgirls ventured out to shoot with us, and 84 completed the match. 1 cowboy completed only 1 stage before having gun trouble and leaving for the day. He’ll get a free shoot next time.
In the shooting competition, Unpleasant, once again, was the Top Gun. Marshal Too Tall placed 2nd in his attempt to be the 1st shooter to ever finish 1st place in the same month at the Oak Ridge, Mystery Dog and Ocoee Rangers shoots. He came close, but Unpleasant edged him out. Anita Margarita, who placed 4th overall, was the Top Cowgirl Shooter. The Top 10 Shooters were: (1) Unpleasant, (2) Marshal Too Tall (3) Clancy O’Conall (4) Anita Margarita (5) Festus D. Deputy (6) Tucson Tuco (7) Slater (8) Ocoee Red (9) Fast Harley and (10) Polecat Carl. 19 shooters shot Matches with no misses.
