IN NOVEMBER – SOME TURKEYS PACK SIX-GUNS

If you didn’t venture out for the November shoot, you missed a good one.  Sure it was a bit chilly when we started, and it was cloudy, but it didn’t rain, except for the lead that rained on the targets. We shot the flying circle, but we called it a turkey, and there were some knockdown targets that we shot with rifles and with pistols. Let’s point out that they were revolvers.  Too Tall likes accuracy in these articles.  Speaking of Too Tall, he hit 1 of the revolver knockdown targets with his trusty .32, and the bullet went “tink”, but the target just stood there looking back at him.  In fairness, the same thing happened with some other shooters, and they were shooting .38’s.  Of course we .45 shooters didn’t have that problem.

Cloudy days and black powder shooters make for nifty photos. Long Gulch proved that with all his shootin’ irons. Decked out in his black hat, red shirt and making the smoke fly, it proved what Shadrack Jones used to say, when he shot with us. “As long as you look good and make a lot of smoke, it don’t matter whether you hit anything or not.” Well, Long Gulch looked good, and made lots of smoke, but he hit most of his targets and placed 23rd in a field of 48 shooters.
