Ocoee Rangers Newsletter Vol. 11, Issue. No. 6 June 2013
Posted by Deadman in NewsletterSummer Magic … On The Range
Summer officially begins in June, and it did at the Ocoee Rangers shoot. 78 shooters fired more than 8,000 rounds at steel villains. That’s 100 rounds of pistol / rifle ammo and 4 shotgun rounds per shooter, although on average there were undoubtedly more than 4 shotgun rounds fired per shooter.
Buckaroo shooter Jon Autry thought the celebration was just great: he shot a no-misses match. Dodge City Dixie and Unpleasant agreed. Dixie was the Top Lady Shooter, and Unpleasant was the TOP GUN. Feather Dancer and her other half, Dusty Dollar, both shot their 2nd consecutive no-misses matches.
The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Unpleasant (2) Clancy O’Conall (3) Papa Dave (4) Hurricane Charly (5) Kid Hawkins (6) Ocoee Red (7) Purly (8) Tabasco JOT (9) Marshal Too Tall and (10) Happy Pappy.
As at the May Shoot, 20 shooters shot No Miss Matches: Jon Autry, Unpleasant, Clancy O’Conall, Papa Dave, Purly, Frank Canton, Jackson Longstreet, Sheriff Lord, Reno Mustang, Yankee Dutchman, Rev Adam Jones, Mongo, Limp Along Charlie, Bad Eye Tom, TN Hawk, Hide Cutter, Squire Shooter, Hombre Sin Nombre, Feather Dancer and Dusty Dollar.
We had several shooters with us for the 1st Time. To each of you, we hope you enjoyed yourselves, and we welcome you back … anytime.
Marshal Too Tall sauntered (that’s a Horseshoe John word) over and corrected how we’ve reported Buffalo Shoot Results for years. It went sorta like this. “Hey. How come you put the Buffalo Shoot Rifle Results as Single Shot Rifle and Lever Action Rifle. It’s 100 yard pistol caliber rifle and 100 yard rifle cartridge rifle.” … Shucks, after all these years of putting those old results and showing pictures of all those Sharps rifle shooters, who’d of thunk it? Anyway, the Buffalo shoot winners are shown below, in categories as Too Tall reported.
You’ve seen lots of Western movies, right? And in all of those shoot’em ups, the heroes and the villains rode the range on horseback, didn’t they? Take a look at these range riders, and what do you notice? Well, right off, you’ll notice that Cactus Red has a specially designed gun-cart, made so it’ll fit on his steel horse. The next thing you’ll notice is that Tombstone has a do-rag on his head, while Cactus Red has a helmet. Does that mean that Tombstone’s hard-headed? If you look closely, you’ll notice that Cactus Red and Tombstone have very long knives in their boots. Let’s see. 2 riders, long knives, riding home after a challenging day …. Are they cowboys or the 2 of the 3 Musketeers? Just imagine the comment from some little Yankee kid when he or she sees Cactus Red with his sword in his boot and what appears to be a casket tied behind him: “Hey Dad, there goes a Southern funeral procession. The guy in the box sure must have been skinny.”
