Icecicles

The January Shoot was colder than a well-digger’s butt in Montana. I looked back at pictures of the January shoots in 2013, 2012 and 2011, and it’s evident from the size of the crowd and the way they we were dressed that the temperatures were much more moderate. 26 shooters braved the cold and shot the match. Miss Kitty Kat did even more:  she shot her 1st No Misses Match. And Stag Hunter shot his 1st Ocoee Rangers match.

Hey, the January match proved something: it showed us that, as a group, we’re a lot younger than we thought we were. The weather separated the men from the boys and the women from the girls. If you look at the score sheet, you’ll see that there’s only 1 woman in our group, Miss Kitty Kat.  All the girls stayed home, and there were lots of boys that stayed home too, including this word scratcher.

Horseshoe John missed the match, although he helped set up the range Friday afternoon before the shoot. He commented, “After we set up the range, it looked bare.  We had 6 targets on each stage, but the targets were bare.  They weren’t painted.  It was so cold, we couldn’t get the paint to come out of the can.”

But the hearty soles who fought the steel bandits shot very well.  14 people shot with no misses, including 8 of the Top 10 Shooters.  Unpleasant was the Top Gun and Miss Kitty Kat was the Top Lady Shooter. The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Unpleasant (2) Pleasant (3) Hurricane Charley (4) Marshal Too Tall (5) Purly (6) T-Bone Angus (7) Polecat Carl (8) Tin Pot (9) Fast Harley and (10) Kid Ziggy.
