The February Shoot Was … Really Nifty
If you weren’t among the 63 shooters who participated in the Ocoee Rangers February shoot, you missed a good one. The stages, all written by lady shooters, were really good. They were fun to shoot, had variety (Miss Kitty Kat included the Texas Star and others had plenty of knock-down targets) and it was just a fun shoot. Stated simply, WELL DONE LADIES.
The lady shooters who brought us the February stages are shown below. Shez A Pistol had the idea for lady shooters to write all the stages for a shoot, although she didn’t write a stage herself. The other ladies pictured, plus Yazoo City Gal, who couldn’t attend because she was babysitting Judge’m All following his surgery, wrote the stages.

L-R: Shez A Pistol, Mrs. Pleasant, Last Kiss, Miss Kitty Kat & Anita Margarita. Yazoo City Gal is Missing.
Lady shooters have been part of the Ocoee Rangers since day 1 of our official existence. The First Lady of the Ocoee Rangers Cowboy & Cowgirl Shooters is, in the opinion of this word scratcher, Last Kiss. She wasn’t the 1st lady to shoot an Ocoee Rangers match, but she’s shot 120 matches as an Ocoee Rangers lady shooter, 35 more than her closest lady competitor.
In the pre-match Buffalo Shoot, the winnings were scattered about this time. Jackson Longstreet won the .22 cal. and 100 yard rifle – pistol cal. competitions. Yankee Dutchman won the 100 yard rifle – rifle cal. event. And Marshal Too Tall won the 50 yard pistol shoot. Remember, if you want to shoot in 1 or more Buffalo Shoot events, there’s no additional shoot fee. You just have to get to the range earlier in time to shoot that event.
We also had good participation in the Maverick shooting categories again. 9 shooters participated, 14% of the shooting field. Linc, with a game heart, decided not to shoot Grand Patron and shot Maverick. And once again, Clancy paid 2 shoot fees and shot close targets and Maverick targets. He’s Clancy O’Conall on close targets and Sean Clancy O’Conall on Maverick targets. Double Nickle also paid 2 fees and shot as 2 shooters. As Double Nickle, he shot 49er and placed 1st as a 49er and 1st overall. As Ten Penny, he shot Gunfighter and placed 1st as a Gunfighter and 5th overall. That was the 1st time he’d shot Gunfighter in competition.
Who won the shoot? Everyone who participated. Here’s how Half Cocked Kaylee described it when asked if she was going to win. She smiled really big and said, “I always win when I shoot.” And she does. Her smile makes winners of the rest of us. For the record, Double Nickle was the TOP Gun, Last Kiss was the Top Lady Shooter, and Sean Clancy O’Conall was the Top Maverick Shooter.
The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Double Nickle (2) Purly (3) Hurricane Charly (4) Barkeep Casey (5) Ten Penny (6) Pleasant (7) Ocoee Red (8) Happy Pappy (9) Jackalope and (10) Kid Ziggy. …. (Double Nickle and Ten Penny are the same cowboy.)
