May – Memorial Day – Shoot
Historically, our May Shoot has been 1 of our lesser attended shoots. Attached to Memorial Day, it’s a long weekend, and other attractions and families compete with shooting. However, 52 shooters ventured out to battle the clang gang (steel range targets). Below is Outlaw Shooter Loose Cinch blasting the flying bird from the hip. Notice the shattered bird?
A couple of shooters, Tombstone and Tenn Critr were decked out in Memorial Day colors; red, white and blue. Tenn Critr said that for the July shoot, he’d have red, white & blue ammo to go with the rest of his shooting duds.
The Top Gun was Hurricane Charly, closely followed by Cumberland Drifter. LuLu McGoo was the Top Lady Shooter. The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Hurricane Charly (2) Cumberland Drifter (3) Jackalope (4) Randy Saint Eagle (5) Papa Dave (6) Marshal Too Tall (7) Widowmaker (8) Tombstone (9) Polecat Carl and (10) Dirtwater Fox. In the pre-match Buffalo Shoot, the competitors sorta spread the winnings around. Yankee Dutchman won the Long Range Rifle – Rifle Cal. event. Sudden Sam captured the Long Range Rifle – Pistol Cal. competition. Marshal Too Tall was the top .22 Cal. Pistol shooter. And Jackson Longstreet won the .22 Cal. Rifle shoot.

Ocoee Red And 14 Other Ocoee Rangers Participate In The Georgia State Cowboy Shoot …. Stampede At South River … May 18 – 20, 2017
182 shooters participated in The Stampede At South River. That includes Ocoee Red and 14 other Ocoee Rangers. Other familiar shooters who participated were Hurricane Charly, Double Nickle, Dodge City Dixie, Reno Mustang, Kid Ziggy, D.Q. Jones, Tombstone, Sudden Sam, Dirtwater Fox, Scrub Oak Willie, Garnet Gal, Two Step Net, Purly and Outcast.
How’d they do? Shucks, they had fun, or at least Ocoee Red’s smile in the photo on his Face Book site seems to say that they did. Two Step Net and Tombstone placed 1st in their shooting classes. Two Step Net was the No. 1 Grand Dame, and Tombstone was the No. 1 Outlaw shooter. 3 of our gang shot in the Senior Gunfighter class and finished in 3rd, 4th and 5th places: Reno Mustang, Kid Ziggy and D.Q. Jones. Hurricane Charly placed 10th overall and was the top shooter from our group.
Who was the overall champ? Beats me. From the perspective of the Ocoee Rangers, I’d say that Hurricane Charly was.
