The 2016 Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out!  It Was Really Nifty

The 2016 Ocoee Rangers’ Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out! was really nifty.  Right Too Tall?  It was the 3rd such Annual Shoot, and it seemed to please all 104 participants.  That’s the most shooters we’ve had at the Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out!  In 2014, the 1st year, 102 shooters participated.  In 2015, 92 shooters participated.  Here’s 1 posse of lively participants, Horseshoe John’s posse, from the 2016 Shoot-Out.

Posse # 2 L-R: Front Row - Babe Ruthless, Marshal Too Tall, Smokin' Dave, T-Bone Angus, Sundance McNeyman ... Row 2 (short row) - Lucky Lightburne, Double Barrel, Trail Bones ... Row 3 - Tin Pot (yellow bandana), Long Wolf, Shenandoah Will, Cookie Lynn, Horseshoe John, Rev. Adam Jones, Colonel Mortimer, Steely I. Justice ... Back Row - Ranger Ben, Blue Ridge Mike, a bush, and Keystone. The bush had no misses.

Who were the folks who produced the Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out?  Well, Purly was the Match Director.  And Horseshoe John was the Range Master and leader of the Set-up Gang.  And T-Bone Angus wrote the stages.  And Sudden Sam was the Master Score Keeper who handled all the electronic scoring and results. And Ocoee Red and Shez A Pistol and Pleasant and Mrs Pleasant and Two Step Net helped in setting up the dining arrangements and other stuff.  And the Posse Leaders (Double Eagle, Horseshoe John, Fast Harley, Pleasant and Yankee Dutchman) and the Shooters who came and participated.  There’d have been no shoot without the Shooters.  Thanks to everyone who participated in the event in any way.

The above photo shows Match Director Purly, surrounded by a flock of Winners. The Top Gun was Cumberland Drifter.  Dodge City Dixie was the Top Lady Shooter.  Dodge City Dixie’s achievement is an event in itself.  In the 3 years in which this shoot has been conducted, 3 male shooters have been Top Gun: in 2014 Unpleasant, in 2015 Hurricane Charly. and in 2016 Cumberland Drifter.  Dodge City Dixie was the Top Lady Shooter in all 3 events.  How ’bout that?  Even Too Tall is impressed, and not much impresses Too Tall.  Right Too Tall?

The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Cumberland Drifter (2) Barkeep Casey (3) Double Nickle (4) Hurricane Charly (5) Dodge City Dixie (6) Slater (7) Reno Mustang (8) Pleasant (9) Branchwater Jack  (10) Blackjack Lee. Marshal Too Tall won the Buffalo Shoot Long Range Rifle – Rifle Cal. event. Jackson Longstreet won the Long Range Rifle – Pistol Cal. shoot, and Pleasant won the .22 Cal. competition.

You can’t have a shoot without pictures of folks shooting.  So, take a gander at these.

The September shoot saw another 1st. It was the 1st time anyone ever shot Steam Punk Cowboy at an Ocoee Rangers shoot. Shucks, lots of folks had never heard of Steam Punk. When he registered for the shoot, weeks ago, Rolan Kraps asked Purly if Steam Punk Cowboys could be recognized at the Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out.  Purly, applying our philosophy, said, “OK.”

What’s our philosophy?  Well, we’re usually pretty willing to recognize other classes.  We once, years ago, told a shooter who wanted to shoot Outlaw, “You can shoot blond haired, blue eyed, left handed duelist, if you want to.  But we won’t give an award unless at least 2 people shoot in the category.”  So, Rolan Kraps and his shootin’ pal, Iron Chief, both shot Steam Punk Cowboy. Take a look at them below.  This is the 2nd time that Rolan Kraps brought a new category to the Cleveland Range. Back in 2000, he was the 1st person to shoot Gunfighter on the Cleveland Range.  How ’bout that?

Lots of folks won Ocoee Rangers shoot buckles for placing 1st in their shooting categories, including Iron Chief.  Others won certificates.  But most importantly, we had a safe, fun shoot.  There were lots of smiles.  In the final analysis, that’s the reason folks play the Cowboy and Cowgirl Shooting Game.  Right, Too Tall?
