94 Shooters Participated In The 2015 Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out!
The LEADMINE VALLEY SHOOT-OUT! was a nifty shoot. If you missed it, shame on you. The weather was great. Sure, it misted a little before the shoot. But, Rev. Adam Jones, our weather influencer, was back with us, after a long illness, and the weather was great. No rain, sunny sky, colorful scene, reasonable temperature …. (Too Tall just said, “That’s enough about the weather. Get crackin’.”) So, here goes.
Lots of cowfolks were dressed a bit more spiffy than usual. In anticipation, Purly, the match director, picked a passel of judges to select the best dressed lady shooter and best dressed gent. The competition was tough, but Parlorhouse Pearl and the Dirtwater Fox were selected as Best Dressed Lady and Gent. Marshal Too Tall ventured down to the site of the regular buffalo shoot. No one was present. So, he did what happens in baseball and football when a opponent doesn’t show up: he declared himself the Buffalo Shoot winner in all categories. He really didn’t, but it makes a good yarn.
After all the shooting was done, and the targets stored away, folks gathered at the clubhouse for lunch, door prizes, and the presentation of awards. The TOP GUN award was presented to Hurricane Charly, who shot the entire match in 84.97 seconds. The Top Lady Shooter award went home with Dodge City Dixie, who placed 4th overall, and shot the entire match in 95.34 seconds. Both Hurricane Charly and Dodge City Dixie shot with no misses, as did 46 other shooters. The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Hurricane Charly (2) Slater (3) Cumberland Drifter (4) Dodge City Dixie (5) Koda Joe (6) Purly (7) TN Tombstone (8) Barkeep Casey (9) Unpleasant and (10) Papa Dave.
With a colorful name like Ocoee Rangers Leadmine Valley Shoot-Out!, there have to be colorful pictures to back that up. Right? Then how about this photo? This is a historical photo. Tin Pot is shooting Elder Statesman. That’s historical. If you don’t believe it, just ask Half-Cocked Kaylee or even Unpleasant, and they’ll say that sounds historical to them. But look in the background, and what do you see? Yipee!. It’s Splinter, the range horse. We used to shoot from a saddle on ol’ Splinter, but as the years passed, ages and waistlines increased, and folks became preoccupied with shooting great big targets real close, Splinter was retired and became an observer at our shoots.
