GUNSMOKE TRAIL

GUNSMOKE TRAIL was the name of a song recorded by Tex Ritter, using the music from TV’s Gunsmoke. And the photo to the left plays off that concept, Gun-Smoke Trail. Many of us had to drive through patches of fog to get to the range, but this isn’t fog.  The photographer focused on these cowboys, but before the camera functioned, Clancy O’Conall, who had his shotgun up and ready, fired a black powder round and the smoke engulfed these fellers. Marshal W.D. has the score pad ready to record the results, if he can see to do so.The day was brilliant, even if a few shooters weren’t. It was shirt sleeves weather most of the day. If you stayed home, you missed a good shoot.  60 shooters participated in the match.

The day’s action started, as usual, with the Buffalo Shoot.  There’s no extra fee to shoot in the Buffalo Shoot, if you want to join the shooters. Marshal Too Tall won the Long Range Single Shot Rifle competition, after a 3 round shoot off. Unpleasant won the Long Range Lever Action Rifle Shoot, after a 4 round shoot off. Sundance McNeyman won the Long Range Pistol completion, and Marshal Too Tall placed first in the .22 Cal. shoot.

Unpleasant was the TOP GUN of the day, very narrowly beating Widowmaker. Last Kiss, who shot in the overall Gunfighter category, was the Top Lady Shooter. The Top 10 Shooters were: (1) Unpleasant (2) Widowmaker (3) Ocoee Red (4) Festus D. Deputy (5) Marshal Too Tall (6) Pleasant (7) Purly (8) T-Bone Angus (9) Last Kiss and (10) Tucson Tuco. 11 shooters shot matches with no misses: Unpleasant, Ocoee Red, Pleasant,  T-Bone Angus, TN Mongo, Lightning McCoy, TN Hoss, Delta Desperado, Owlhoot Hardin, Deacon Red and Buckshot John.
