Easter Cowboys Cowgirls
Easter Cowboys & Cowgirls Pause Before The April 2005 Shoot. It Was A Good Day. When we gather to shoot, we get a chance to turn back the clock and be 12 years old again as we play cowboys and cowgirls. Our mom’s would approve of our playmates. They’re polite, safe and enjoyable to associate with. This picture shows their character.
Ocoee Red
Ocoee Red is the Captain of the Ocoee Rangers Cowboy & Cowgirl Shooters, and 1 of the founders of the group. He Shoots in the 49er Class, and He Usually Finishes in the Top 10 Monthly Shooters.
Pleasant B
Pleasant is a died-in-the-wool Gunfighter. He’s also the Ocoee Rangers’ Territorial Governor. Pleasant is 1 of the founders of the Ocoee Rangers.
Sundance McNeyman
A Founder of the Ocoee Rangers, Sundance McNeyman Shoots in the Modern Class and is a Regular Shooter in the Pre-Match Buffalo Shoot in the Long Range Pistol, Single Shot Rifle and Lever Action Rife Competitions. Sundance is 1 of the founders of the Ocoee Rangers.
Deadman 6 08 B
Deadman is an accurate cowboy shooter. And his alias is appropriate: he shoots almost as slow as a dead man. He’s too stuborn to shoot light loads in his .45’s, and too stuborn to put a short stroke kit in his ’73 Winchester. So, he doesn’t come in anywhere close to the top shooters. But he has fun and enjoys the game and the folks who shoot with the Ocoee Rangers. He’s an Ocoee Rangers founder and editor of the Ocoee Ranger newsletter.
Mesquite Millie
Mesquite Millie doesn’t shoot. But she’s a fully contributing cowgirl. Assisted by Sundance McNeyman and Deadman, when she can drag him away from his camera and talking with most everyone on the range, she registers shooters at each monthly shoot. Then she keeps score for Horseshoe John’s posse, figures all the scores, and reviews the Newsletter to catch Deadman’s mistakes. Millie is 1 of the founders of the Ocoee Rangers.
Ranger Roger
Ranger Roger shoots Duelist. He stands up and shoots his pistols 1 handed, just like the cowboys did in movies when he was a young feller. Ranger Roger is an Ocoee Ranger. Don’t that sound poetic?
Marshal Too Tall
Marshal Too Tall is a top shooter, and shoots 49er, like his pals Festus D. Deputy and Ocoee Red. He’s also a regular winner in several categories in the pre-match Buffalo Shoot. Marshal Too Tall is 1 of the founders of the Ocoee Rangers.
Tinker Chapley
Tinker Chapley shoots Duelist or Sr. Duelist and is one of the founders of the Ocoee Rangers. He’s pictured here with one of the steel bad-guys that he captured.

T bone
T-Bone Angus writes and has written most of the stages that we’ve shot over the years. He’s versitle: you never know what category he’s going to shoot in. He shoots B-Western, most of the time lately. But sometimes he shoots Sr., and Black Powder Cartridge. He’s tried everything except Gunfighter. T-Bone is 1 of the founders of the Ocoee Rangers.
Curly Bill
Curly Bill Kelly is an Outlaw shooter. He started out shooting Traditional and regularly won. Then he decided he was missing the fun of shooting, and he joined Tennessee Tombstone and his gang of Outlaw shooters. A cowboy shooter, Curly Bill is also a master leather crafter and a super gunsmith. He’s a fine feller.
Linc
Linc is a gentleman cowboy shooter. He looks the part and conducts himself to match his gentlemanly looks. He’s a classy cowboy. … And he shoots good to!
Fast Harley
Fast Harley shoots Gunfighter, and shoots very well. In character, he favors a look that’s much like that of Wild Bill Hickok. He’s showing his "gunfighter look" here. He’s a regular shooter in the pre-match Bufflao Shoot. Harley and his Gunfigher shootin’ better half, Last Kiss, lead posses and are always working members of the posses in which they shoot.
Pyro B
Pryo shoots as a Gunfighter. He learned to shoot that way from his paw, Pleasant.
Outlaw Tracker C
Outlaw Tracker is a Traditional shooter, and the son of that rootin’ tootin’ Cowboy Shooter, Tin Pot.
Josey Buckhorn
Josey Buckhorn now shoots in the Classic category. He’s been Cowboy Action Shooting for a number of years. He may be wearing a black hat, but he’s 1 of the good guys.
Sledge
Sledge has been a Cowboy shooter for a couple of years. His shooting has improved, in time and in accuracy. He’s not a quiet cowboy, he likes to talk …. like lot’s of us. But that’s why we have quiet cowboys and talkers. We even it out.
Outrider
Outrider shoots in the Silver Senior category. And he’s a gifted leather craftsman. And he works with his posse at monthly shoots. And …… he finds humor in lots of situations. He’s a fine feller to shoot with.
Widowmaker
Widowmaker is a fast shootin’ Gunfighter. With a pistol in each hand, he shoots very fast.
Roma Jane
Roma Jane is a Lady Shooter who enjoys Cowgirl shooting and handles her guns very well. She also spiffs up her other half’s image ( Long Gulch) when she accompanies him to shoots.
Wildcat Wilkey B
Wildcat Wilkey is another gentleman shooter. He usually shoots in the Silver Senior category, and he shoots very well.
Tenn Smoke
Tenn (that’s pronounced Ten) Smoke has been a Cowboy Shooter for a couple of years. He usually shoots in the 49er category.
Tin Pot C
Tin Pot is displaying his look of concentration. And it works. He’s a very good Senior shooter.
Squire Shooter
Squire Shooter is a ….. square shooter who shoots in the Senior category. He’s another quiet cowboy. So, he helps balance the playing field … he leaves air space for folks who talk a lot.
Judgem All Duncan
Judge’m All Duncan sometimes shoots Duelist and sometimes Black Powder Duelist.
Bad Eye Tom
Bad Eye Tom is a Senior shooter and the leader of a family of shooters: himself, his son – Bad Arm Slim, and his granddaughter – Calico Nicole.
Calico Nicole
Calico Nicole is a young Cowgirl shooter, currently shooting as a Jr. Cowgirl. Nicole and other young shooters like her are our future as Cowboy & Cowgirl Shooters. This young lady is a good base to bulid on.
Bad Arm
Bad Arm Slim shoots Traditional. He’s a quiet cowboy, but he lets his guns speak for him: he doesn’t shoot mouse loads.
Daisy Donald
Here are a couple of quacker jack shooters: Sheriff Donald (L) and Deadeye Daisy (R). Both shoot safely, place in their shooting categories, and enjoy Cowboy & Cowgirl Shooting. In addition, Daisy’s an excellent score keeper.
Ms Dee Lightning
Ms. Dee Lightning is a colorful cowgirl shooter who uses the word "Lightning" a lot. Her alias contains the word "Lightning". And her other half is Classic Cowboy shooter Lightning McCoy. And she shoots a Colt Lightning rifle. But she’s not in a rut: no sir. She’s a good cowgirl shooter.
Tucson Tuco ORSO
Tucson Tuco shoots in the Senior category. And, no, he doesn’t normally look this scruffty. This picture was taken at the Smoky Mountain Shootist Society’s Annual Shoot, and he forgot some things: his non cowboy clothes, his razor, etc. But he remembered the important stuff: his guns, his cowboy persona, and his sense of humor.
Badlands Beck
Badlands Beck is an Outlaw shooter. That means he shoots from the hip – not fast draw – with his pistols and his shotgun. And he hangs around with the likes of Tennessee Tombstone, Loose Cinch, Rawhide Rex and Curly Bill.
Yazoo City Gal
Yazoo City Gal shoots Lady Traditional and sometimes Lady Duelist. And she’s improving with each match.
Oracle
Oracle is decked out in buckskins. What can you say about Oracle that he hasn’t said? That’s tough. Oracle is not 1 of the strong silent type cowboys. He’s a talker. And he’s a black powder shooter. And he’s a ROII instructer. And he has a real low SASS number. And some cowgirl would probably say that his glove doesn’t match his coat. But he’s a rootin’ tootin’ cowboy, and he doesn’t care about stuff like the color of gloves.
Tyler Jones
Thler Jones has no alias. And he doesn’t shoot with the Ocoee Rangers. But he’s a real, live Ocoee Ranger just the same. Tyler is our Website Administrator, and he’s the one who set up this new and improved Ocoee Rangers website. He’s also the son of Ocoee Red.
Tucson Tuco
Tucson Tuco on the range. Here’s his non-scruffty look. But scruftty or not, he’s a fine feller to shoot with. Just ask Purly.
Double Eagle
Here’s Double Eagle dressed up a bit. He’s no prettier, but he does look a bit more presentable. He’s dolled up to help celebrate the holiday season. This was made at our 2007 Christmas Shoot & Family Event.
Dustin Clays
Dustin Clays is a Classic shooter and a classic dresser. Duded up in black, he’s another cowboy who’s dressed up for the Christmas Shoot and Family Event.
Keystone Dagnabit Deb A
Dabnabit Deb and Keystone, a couple of shooters in profile. Whatever’s happening, Keystone is serious about it, and Deb sees the humor.

Kenesaw shoots Duelist or Black Powder Duelist, when persuaded to do so by Owlhoot Hardin. Kenesaw is a mature shooter. What does that mean? Well, he used to be known as Kenesaw Kid.
Purly
Purly, technically Purly Shells, has been a Cowboy Shooter for several years. He usually shoots in the Senior category. No, his alias has nothing to do with "tiny bubbles".
Tennessee Mongo
Tennessee Mongo shoots Traditional style and conducts the monthly pre-shoot safety briefings.
Dagnabit Deb 4×6
Dagnabit Deb is a Lady Shooter who demonstrates class in her shooting style and in her behavior. She’s Keystone’s better half.
Yankee Dutchman
Yankee Dutchman is a transplanted Yankee, and he fits right in with the Ocoee Rangers. Of course he’s not the only cowboy who rode south. T-Bone Angus, Outrider and others hit the trail south, just like cowboys back in the 1800’s did. Yankee Dutchman shoots as a Gunfighter.
SantaFriends
L-R: Double Eagle, Bad Eye Tom and Deadeye Daisy are celebrating a Cowboy & Cowgirl Christmas on the range. Bad Eye Tom makes a good Santa, and Double Eagle and Deadeye Daisy make good range chums.
Deadeye Daisy
Deadeye Daisy celebrates the passing seasons and the various holidays. Decked out in her 4th of July outfit, she’s doing what cowboys and cowgirls used to do: celebrating the 4th in a big way. Cowboys in the Old West made more to do about the 4th than about Christmas.
Limp Along Charlie
Limp Along Charlie is a Modern shooter and a good one. He’s a little like Hopalong Cassidy: both took their names following accidents that left them with a bit of a limp. But Limp Along did not injure himself in a shooting accident. He’s smarter and more careful than that.
Grey Rider
Grey Rider has been shooting Cowboy style for several years. He’s another quiet cowboy.
El Carrera B
El Carrera shoots as a Classic Cowboy, which is appropriate, because he’s a classy cowboy. Just look for yourself. It’s evident.
Jackson Longstreet
Jackson Longstreet is a relatively new Ocoee Rangers Cowboy Shooter. Before plunging into Cowboy Shooting, he was into Civil War reenactment.
S.A. Pondwater
S. A. Pondwater is a fast shooting Modern Category shooter. How fast? Well, he usually finishes in the top 2. That’s not bad shooting. What does the S.A. stand for? "Slow As", which certainly doesn’t describe his shooting.
Tellico B
Tellico is a long time cowboy shooter, but he raises unusual critters for a cowboy: trout. So that makes him what? A trout rustler, right? Which then raises a couple of other questions: (1) how do you rope a trout and (2) how do you brand one? And imagine riding a troutpony.
Last Kiss B
Last Kiss in Gunfighter Black. She has a really neat alias. Here’s how she once explained the origin of her alias: "In cowboy movies, the hero gets a last kiss and then rides away, or sometimes gets a last kiss and dies. So, I thought I’d be Last Kiss."
Dustin Clays B
Dustin Clays is a Classic Cowboy, and a very classy one at that. His wife is largely responsible for his alias. He used to shoot clay pigeons with shotguns a lot and very well. He’d come home and say, "I was really dustin’ clays today." So when he was searching for an alias, his other half suggested Dustin’ Clays. And he listened.
Double Eagle
Double Eagle, to SASS Double Eagle Dave, shoots in several categories, depending upon his mood at the time. And he sometimes shoots real, live Colt revolvers. Of course he doesn’t work them too hard. He shoots fast, and he shoots accurate, and he’s a good posse leader, and works hard setting up the range with other cowfolk. So what does this have to do with not working his pistols too hard? Well, he shoots butterfly loads in his .45’s. A butterfly load is one that when it hits the target and a butterfly is sitting on the top of the target, there’s not enough bump to make it fly away. But hey, he hits dead center of the target.
Long Gulch
Long Gulch is a Classic Cowboy shooter. He’s a bit like many early movie cowboys: he doesn’t talk much. But he shoots very well.
Lightning McCoy
Lightning McCoy shoots Classic Cowboy. He took his alias from a character that Tim McCoy played in early silver screen cowboy flicks.
Tio Don
Tio Don is a B-Western shooter. Whether topped off in a white hat or in a black hat, he’s 1of the good guys.
Clancy OConnal
Clancy O’Conall, techincally Sunrise Clancy O’Conall, is a Duelist. He’s 1 of the quiet cowboys, that means he doesn’t talk much. Which also means he leaves talking space for Tennessee Tombstone and Festus D. Deputy.
Pistol Creek
Pistol Creek shoots Traditional and is a relatively recent Ocoee Ranger shooter. Part of the Thompson family of shooters (Long Gulch & Roma Jane are the others), he’s a safe shooter and enjoys the game.
Rev Adam Jones Owlhoot Hardin
The Rev. Adam Jones (L) and Owlhoot Hardin (R) are a couple of hard shootin’ cowboys. The Rev., who’s a minister in real life, shoots in the Senior category. Owlhoot shoots the dirty stuff: he’s a Senior Black Powder Duelist. Both are very accurate shooters.
Ben Shot C
Ben Shot began cowboy shooting using the name Frank James, his real world name. But someone else had already claimed it for an alias. So, the real live Frank James became Ben Shot. Well, sorta. No one could spell or pronounce his alias’ last name, so, he became Ben Shot. He’s quiet, is a working member of his posse every month, and is a classy cowboy to shoot with.
Dead Beat Christmas 2006
Dead Beat is a Sr. Shooter. Usually seen in some sort of buckskin shooting costume, he’s dressed up here. This was taken at 1 of the Ocoee Rangers Christmas / December shoots. Dead Beat has never won a match, and probably never will. But, nobody enjoys cowboy shooting more than Dead Beat.
Keystone B
Keystone shoots Gunfighter, is always a working member of his posse, and sometimes serves as Posse Leader.
Loose Cinch
Loose Cinch is an Outlaw shooter. That means that he shoots with a pistol in each hand, but his elbow has to be bent and his pistols have to be shot from hip level. His shotgun also has to be shot from hip level. He shoots a rifle like everybody else. He’s a good shootin’ Outlaw shooter.
Mrs Pleasant
Mrs. Pleasant is a relatively new cowgirl shooter. She’s accurate and getting faster. Of course she has a lot of fast and straight shootin’ coaches: husband – Pleasant and sons – Unpleasant and Pyro.
Unpleasant B
Unpleasant, 1 of Pleasant’s boys, is a top Traditional cowboy shooter and regularly places in the top 5 shooters. He shoot’s a single action revolver as fast as an automatic pistol, and makes a ’97 Winchester really hum. It’s hard work being a spotter when Unpleasant shoots.
Colonel Allison
Colonel Allison is the most senior Ocoee Rangers shooter. He brings experience, shooting skill, humor, a willingness to work in his posse, an a generally good cowboy spirit to the matches he attends. He’s a class act.
Awful Close
Awful Close began cowboy shooting as Ramblin’ Ron, but like several cowboys from the Old West, he changed his name. He’s quiet, unlike some of us. He let’s his shooting do his talking. In that way, he talks pretty good.
Cool Waters
Cool Waters wears many hats: he’s a very good cowboy shooter, he makes and sells bullets (Saddlebag Bullets), and he’s teaching his daughter, Applesauce, to be a safe, competent junior cowgirl shooter.
Colonel Mortimer
Colonel Mortimer took his alias from a character in Eastwood’s FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE movie. Lee Van Cleef, as Colonel Mortimer, protrayed a squinted eyed gunslick. Look at Colonel Mortimer here. Notice the squint in his eyes? That’s his gunslick look.
Delta Desperado
Delta Desperado is a tall quite cowboy who enjoys his time on the range and shoots well.
Double Eagle Owlhoot Hardin
Look alike cowboys …. sorta. Left is Double Eagle. Right is Owlhoot Hardin, Double Eagle’s mentor in Cowboy Action Shooting. Cowboy Shooting, in addition to producing noise, smoke and clanging target hits produces friendships. And folks gather to play the game and enjoy each others’ company. How do you know? Think about it. An average shooter will, counting loading, shooting and unloading spend about 15 minutes shooting in a 5-stage-day. If we gather at 8:30 and leave about 3:00 pm, that means each cowboy and cowgirl spends most of the time doing something other than shooting. It’s called companionship.
Fast Harley
Fast Harley is demonstrating the "Cold Weather Cowboy" look. Why? Because this photo was captured in January 2008, and it was cold.

Last Kiss is a Lady Gunfighter shooter, and she shoots very well. She’s also a regular Posse Leader and a regular shooter in the pre-match Buffalo Shoot. She regularly outshoots lots of cowboys, including the one who wrote this caption.

Slater is a young feller who shoots in the Traditional category, and shoots very well.
Tabasco JOT
Tabasco JOT is a very competitive Cowboy Action Shooter and shoots very well. He is especially fast shooting his rifle.
Vinegaroon
Here’s Vinegarroon, decked out in his cowboy duds and shooting irons. He’s showing his Colt Lightning that he’s fancied up. And he did it himself. He’s a master engraver.
