Posted by Deadman in Newsletter4th Annual Lead Mine Shoot Out … Another Success
Yep. Our September Lead Mine Shoot Out was another success. Thanks to all who made it happen! That means all those who performed various tasks to set up and produce the event and all those who ventured out to shoot. As Too Tall says, you can’t have a shoot without shooters.
If you attended the shoot, and looked inside your match booklet, you’ll have noticed that we remembered Rev. Adam Jones, whose last shoot with us, and in this world, was our 2016 Lead Mine Shoot Out. Rev. Adam Jones shot with us on the Cleveland range for 16 years, longer than we’ve been the Ocoee Rangers. He loved Cowboy Shooting. The smile in the photo shows that.
In Memory Of The Rev. Adam Jones SASS # 37014

Whose Last Cowboy Shoot Was The 2016 Lead Mine Shoot Out
How many ventured out to participate in the Annual event? 113 shooters of all ages participated in the match. If you were there, you had a good shoot, regardless of how you placed. If you weren’t there, then you were missed.
Before the main event started, the Buffalo Shooters unlimbered their shootin’ irons down on the Buffalo Shoot range. Pleasant won the .22 Cal. Rifle competition. Marshal Too Tall won all the rest: .22 Cal. Pistol, Long Range Rifle – Rifle Cal. and Long Range Rifle – Pistol Cal.
When the shootin’ was done, Slater was the TOP GUN, and Dixie Pistols was the Top Lady Shooter. The Top 10 Shooters were (1) Slater (2) Cumberland Drifter (3) 3-Cut (4) Double Nickel (5) Hurricane Charly (6) Purly (7) Captain Bill Burt (8) Dixie Pistols (9) Black Hawk Henry and (10) Widowmaker.
The Annual Lead Mine Shoot Out doesn’t just miraculously happen. It takes folks to do lots of stuff to make it happen. Key people for the 2017 Shoot Out were:
Purly, Match Director …………. Two Step Net, Registration & Lunch ……….. Sudden Sam, Scoring & Posse Assignment ………… Double Eagle, Leader Posse 1 …………. Horseshoe John, Leader Range Setup & Posse 2 ………… Fast Harley, Leader Posse 3 ………….. Pleasant, Territorial Governor & Leader Posse 4 ………………. Ocoee Red, Capt. Emeritus & Leader Posse 5 ………….. Yankee Dutchman, Capt. Ocoee Rangers & Leader Posse 6 ………… Marshal Too Tall, Coordinator, Buffalo Shoot ………… Mrs. Pleasant, Lunch Setup ……….. Anyone missed & All Shooters Who Participated
TOP GUN and TOP LADY SHOOTER
At the after-shoot luncheon and awards event, Purly presented buckles to category winners, certificates to 2nd and 3rd place shooters, certificates to the 2nd through 10th place shooters, certificates to the Best Dressed Lady (Garnet Gal) and Best Dressed Gent (Black Jack Lee), badges to shooters who didn’t miss any shots, and Top Gun and Top Lady Shooter Awards to Slater and Dixie Pistols. He would have presented the Top Buffalo Shoot Awards, but he hesitated a few moments, and the crowd stampeded. That’s probably not surprising. After all it was a cowboy event.
