Stage No. 1 Separated The Faint Hearts From The Take A Dares!

The June Shoot was warm: very warm. And the humidity was noticeable. But the shoot was great, especially Stage No. 1. Cowboys & cowgirls had swinging targets to shoot with pistols and rifles and knock-downs to shoot with shotguns. You know the swingers we shoot: the ones with the round circle at the top connected with a rectangle to the base. True hearts amongst the shooters shot the round circles, and the faint hearts, well they shot the rectangle at the base so they could triple tap the target. They couldn’t do that if they hit the round circle. Festus D. Deputy is a True Hearted Shooter. One of our top shooters, he shot the circles and shot the stage clean.  It took him a few seconds longer to sweep the targets, but he demonstrated the “Spirit of the Game” in the way he addressed his targets. Some other top shooters may have done the same. But this word scratcher saw Festus shoot his stage.

Colonel Allison Was Back & Mongo’s Gun Cart Ran Away!

Attendance was down a bit: 55 shooters attended. May is a month of competition for attendance. Hooten Old Town had their KY & TN State Black Powder Shoot, and the Shoot Out at Mule Camp, the largest SASS regional shoot east of the Mississippi, was held just south of Atlanta. Both events drew some regular Ocoee Rangers, as they expanded their horizons.  Some shot in the events, and others visited vendor booths, both worthy activities. While out on our range, Colonel Allison returned.  He’s having physical problems and can’t shoot yet, but he manned a loading table and did his usual super job at it. And for comic relief, Mongo’s gun cart ran away.  It’s true.  He has 1 of those converted baby carriage carts with big tires that roll easily, and he left it pointed downhill. And away it ran, just like a team of movie horses pulling a wagon. Of course he was a bit slower chasing it down than the movie cowboys on horseback.

Ocoee Rangers Battle Galveston Pirates And Their Parrot

Yep.  We did.  On stage 5, Galveston pirates were raiding a shipload of cattle, and the Ocoee Rangers, 5 posses of them, drove off the pirates to save the sirloin. The pirates’ parrot flew away back from the action and then perched to view the mayhem. Off the clock, each Ranger had a chance to load 1 round in his or her rifle and pop the parrot for a 5 second bonus.
