Nope. It Didn’t Rain During the December Shoot!

barholly1

It rained the night before the December Shoot, and the morning of the shoot, in places. One of those places was the Cleveland range. And then it got close to shoot time, and the rain stopped. The temperature was mild and the sun even came out for a while. All in all, it was a very good shoot. If you missed it, you missed a good one, and a challenging one. The December Match results don’t count in all the accumulated data for Annual Awards, so it can be a bit unusual, at times. This was one of those times. Stage 3, “Horseshoe’s Revenge”, was a good one, if you like to shoot at targets that are smaller than a car door and farther away than the distance from your steering wheel to your trunk. The rifle targets were out as far as they could go inside range of 3, and 1 of them was rather small. And the pistol targets were out a bit farther than usual, about the distance that the core group used to shoot when we first started Cowboy Shooting. 1 of the pistol targets was also small, and 2 were the steel cowboys. Someone said that whatever Horseshoe John was getting revenge for that if he’d tell what it was, they’d personally see that it never happened again. Deadman was the only shooter who hit all the targets on stage 3, but he shot 1 of the cowboy targets out of order and got a procedural. Of course a couple of people decided to try shooting Outlaw, and they were really surprised when they got to stage 3, hip shooting at those small targets. (more…)

Nope! It Didn’t Rain. The Sun Even Came Out And

Shined On Us.

Some of us were complaining about the rain, as we unlimbered our gear, but the Rev. Adam Jones said, “Quit complaining. It’s not shoot time yet. It’ll stop before we shoot.” And it did. The sun even came out, and for the 61 shooters who came and stayed to shoot, 1 left, it was a good shoot. The stages were fast, and more than 1 Gunfighter said that the stages were really good for Gunfighters. And there were lots of Gunfighters: 8 of them, including Last Kiss. She shot in the Gunfighter class. In fact, she placed 3rd in Gunfighter competition and 6th overall. Of the 61 shooters, 7 of them were lady shooters.

The November Shoot Was Cold, But It Was Good!

Would you believe that the November Shoot Day was the coldest day in the Chattanooga area on record for Nov. 22nd? If you don’t, take it up with the Rev. Adam Jones. He said he heard that on the radio on the way to the shoot.  But then he was riding with Sledge, and Sledge talks a little. 63 shooters ventured out to the range, but the cold drove 4 of ‘em back to the ranch house: 1 evidently took his score sheet with him. This was our Turkey Shoot, and 5 cowboys won turkeys, shooting a .22 cal. rifle on stage 2.
