Ocoee Rangers Annual Christmas shoot & family event!
The shoot was …… chilly, fast, and a prelude to the after shoot Family Event, where we had lunch, fun, shared prizes contributed by our very generous Event Sponsors and awarded 2005 Annual Awards. Of course some folks weren’t able to attend and accept their awards in person. In total, counting shooters, scorekeepers and other guests and families, almost 70 people participated in the festivities on the 17th. Our attendance was down a bit, because of the cold temperature and from competition from other events and December pre-Christmas family commitments. But what the heck, the cowboys & cowgirls who participated kept the bad guys at bay. Shucks, 1 cowgirl (Last Kiss) and 11 cowboys (Wildcat Wilkey, Tin Pot, Moab Margus, Limp Along Charlie, Dajango Slim, Owlhoot Hardin, Fast Harley, Purly, Deadman, Bad Arm Slim and the Rev. Adam Jones) shot clean matches. The Top Gun for the day was Unpleasant, and the top cowgirl shooter was Last Kiss. It should be noted that this was the 1st Ocoee Ranger shoot in which a husband and wife both shot clean matches and on the same day: Last Kiss and Fast Harley.
With a light-hearted, 3-stage shoot, many cowboys experimented a little and shot in the Outlaw class for their first time. For the uninitiated, the Outlaw class is where the shooter shoots pistols and shotguns from the hip, point shooting. And amidst all this were cowboys in Santa hats, worn over cowboy hats of course, and Christmas stages, courtesy of old T-Bone Angus. It was a fun day. If you missed it, you missed a good day, great shooting and good company.

The Buffalo Shoot begins 8:00 am. Registration 8:30 am – Posse Leader walk-through 9:15 am – Safety meeting 9:45 am – Shooting follows ! All times are Eastern Time., ETC.
Remember: The Ocoee Rangers will not shoot in February, to support our friends of the Smokey Mountain Shootists, the Knoxville Cowboys & Cowgirls. Their Shoot Out at Pigeon Forge will be held February 23, 24 & 25th. The Ocoee Rangers will shoot 2 times in March: March 4 and March 25.

ANNUAL OCOEE RANGERS AWARDS PRESENTED
Each year, the Ocoee Rangers Cowboy & Cowgirl Action Shooters honor folks for their performance shooting with and serving the group during the year. This year, the tradition continued. As the Event began, Ocoee Red presented the 2005 Spirit of the Game Award to T-Bone Angus. T-Bone wrote or organized the shoot scenarios for 11 of the 12 matches this year. Additionally, he made props and, continuing his efforts over the years, helped get several new cowboy shooters started in our game.

Marshal Too Tall was honored as the Top Gun of 2005 and was presented our traditional longhorn trophy. Rounding out the other top 10 shooters were: (2) Pleasant (3) Ocoee Red (4) Whiskey River Nelson (5) Festus D. Deputy (6) Unpleasant (7) Double Eagle and Tabasco JOT (no next place is awarded in tie situations) (9) Slater and (10) Fiddleback. Roma Jane was honored as the Top Cowgirl Shooter. The Top 5 Accurate Shooters were: (1) Hombre Sin Nombre (2) Whiskey River Nelson (3) Deadman (4) S. A. Pondwater and (5) Owlhoot Hardin.
In addition to shooters, Top Hand awards were presented to Linc, Double Eagle, Horseshoe John, and Tucson Tuco. These Top Hands were the fellers who consistently set up the range for our monthly shoots and laid out the match. Posse Leader Awards were presented to Badlands Beck, Catoosa Kid, Cherokee Maddog, Devil Dog, Horseshoe John, Hombre Sin Nombre, John Daniel, Keystone, Last Kiss, Ocoee Red, Pleasant, RIP Overland, T-Bone Angus, Marshal Too Tall, Tri and Tucson Tuco. These Posse Leaders led our shoots in 2005. Special thanks were expressed to the following for being super capable score keepers in 2005: Deadeye Daisy, Mrs. Tucson Tuco, Mrs. Loose Cinch and Mesquite Millie, who is also our calculator of total scores and Assistant Newsletter Editor.

Marshal Too Tall – Recognized as the 2005 Top Buffalo Shooter
In addition to being recognized as the 2005 Top Gun, Marshal Too Tall was recognized as the 2005 Top Buffalo Shooter. This year, a special award was presented to him courtesy of Steve Maddock, proprietor of Apishapa Studio in Tijeras, NM. Steve donated an 8 X 10 artist piece in 3 D of Marshal Too Tall. The photo above has the background removed to save ink in printing all the newsletters. The artwork is very well done, and Steve Maddock honored Marshal Too Tall and the Ocoee Rangers by providing this award.
